Recent research by Irish Life into the value of pensions accumulated by women in comparison with men, found at retirement women were likely to have pension packages worth €120,000, or 22% lower than men. The main reason for the difference was not the level of pension funding, but the gender pay gap which is currently 14% lower than men. The research also shows that men spend 7 years more in paid employment than women, this would also explain the reason for women having lower accumulated funds.
